The Barbera d’Alba DOC “Classica” comes from the beautiful hills of the Bassa and Alta Langa in Piemonte. This region is known for its rich wine tradition and unique terroir. The climate, soil, and altitude provide the perfect conditions for the Barbera grape to develop its freshness and complexity. This classic wine is made with great respect for tradition and quality.
The grapes are carefully handpicked to select only the best quality. Then, they go through a maceration period of 10 to 12 days, where the skins stay in contact with the juice to give the wine its deep color and full flavor. After that, the wine goes through malolactic fermentation, which gives it a softer and fuller structure. During the cold winter months, the wine rests in stainless steel tanks and large wooden barrels. This creates a perfect balance between freshness and complexity.
The Barbera d’Alba “Classica” shows a bright ruby red color and intense fruity aromas of cherries, raspberries, and plums. Canonica's story begins in the 1930s when Armando Canonica started a farm with an associated shop. It was not until 1964, when his son Cesare took charge, that the vineyard took the impressive shape it has today. Cesare has worked for years to preserve and use sustainable and environmentally friendly processes which was rewarded in 2005 when Canonica officially became a certified organic farm.
