Product description
The Barmet is a young red wine that embodies the freshness and authenticity of our characteristic "barmet". These barmet are small, refrigerated cellars carved under huge boulders in the middle of the vineyards. They are used to store tools and collect rainwater, which is channelled in through slots in the stones and collected in a large inner basin. The wine, like these cellars, is honest, fresh and has a slight robustness.
The Barmet has a beautiful ruby red colour and a refined, subtly fruity aroma. On the palate, you will experience a dry taste with a slight hint of tannins, providing a balanced structure and a pleasant finish. The wine's alcohol content is 13% vol, which contributes to the fullness of flavour without being overpowering. The wine has a minimum total acidity of 4.5 g/l and a minimum dry extract of 18 g/l, providing a firm yet soft body.
The grapes used for this wine are of the Nebbiolo variety, known locally as "Picotendro". This grape has small, soft berries that grow on steep, stony slopes facing south to south-east. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 350 to 400 metres above sea level, spread across the communes of Donnas, Perloz, Pont-Saint-Martin and Bard. This unique location and rich, well-drained soils give the grapes a distinct character.
The grapes for the Barmet are harvested between mid and late October, when they are at their best. After harvesting, the wine matures for four months in stainless steel tanks, which preserves freshness and purity. The wine then undergoes another four-month maturation in bottle, which further refines and rounds out the flavour.
This particular wine is an ideal companion to savoury dishes such as cold cuts, chestnut soups, bean soups and hearty stews. The Barmet is perfect for those looking for a wine with character, which authentically conveys the tradition and purity of winemaking.
