The Roero Arneis DOCG Riserva Bastia 2021 is a white wine from the Bastia area in Vezza d’Alba, Piedmont, Italy, made from 100% Arneis grapes, hand-picked from vineyards with coarse sand and sandstone. It undergoes a short skin maceration, followed by gentle pressing and fermentation at 15 °C for 15 days, with no malolactic fermentation. After 6 months of aging in barrique barrels, it offers refined complexity with a straw-yellow color and 13.5% alcohol.
Its scent is intense and lasting, with a herbal bouquet of sage, thyme, rosemary, and eucalyptus, finished with soft chamomile notes. This aroma blends the freshness of medicinal herbs with a warm wood touch from the barrique aging, giving it a unique and inviting personality. It’s a wine that stays with you and asks to be explored.
On the tongue, the Riserva Bastia is savory, well-structured, and harmonious, with a dry finish (0.5 g/l sugar) and total acidity of 5.90 g/l. It pairs wonderfully with pasta and risotto dishes, white meats, and seafood, enhancing the flavors with its elegance. Serve it at 10-12 °C in a Bordeaux bottle with a natural cork.
Fabrizio Battaglino is based in the heart of the Langhe and Roero. Battaglino's fourth generation is currently in charge of the winery but still works like all the generations before them. They value tradition and respect for the past. The winery cares for two indigenous Piedmontese grapes: Arneis and Nebbiolo.
