Product description
The "Vin Santo 2009" is a special dessert wine from San Miniato (Pisa), Italy, made from a blend of white and black Malvasia, Trebbiano, and San Colombano grapes from vines over 40 years old on a 0.8-hectare vineyard. The grapes grow on sandstone soils with high pH, Pliocene marine fossils, and abundant clay, at 100-150 meters altitude. With 3500 vines per hectare and 2 kg per vine, harvested in the first ten days of September, they’re dried for five months, creating a potent wine with 17% alcohol and 6.80 g/l acidity, bottled in 1500 75 cl bottles.
The winemaking is traditional and unique: after drying, it ferments in completely sealed oak and chestnut barrels, where it also matures for six years. This gives it a golden yellow color tending to amber and light ruby, with a rich, dense texture. The nose is floral with scents of hedgerows, honey, and dried fruit, a result of the long drying and aging that intensifies and refines the aromas, rooted in the Spurred Cordon training system.
In the mouth, this "Vin Santo 2009" is succulent, dense, and velvety smooth, yet finishes dry, smooth, and elegant, with a balance perfect for traditional almond-paste and dried fruit cakes, cantuccini biscuits, or creamy and herbed cheeses. Store the bottle on its side at 20 °C or less, away from light, and serve at 12-14 °C to enjoy its richness. This wine honors Tuscan tradition, ideal for fans of complex, natural dessert wines.
