Product description
This classic product from our cooperative winery is a tribute to the rich history of winemaking in Donnas. In 1971, this wine became the first in the Valle d'Aosta to obtain the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC), a distinction that confirms the quality and authenticity of our wine. The wine tradition in Donnas dates back to the year 1200, and the appreciation of these wines has continued through the centuries to the present day.
The wine is 90% Nebbiolo grapes of the local variety "Picotendro", known for its small and soft berries. The remaining 10% consists of Freisa Bleuva and Neyret, two native grape varieties traditionally added to deepen the wine's colour and soften the Nebbiolo's tannins. Although these grapes are used in smaller quantities today, they remain an important part of the wine's unique signature, helping it retain its distinctive character.
The wine has a ruby red colour with garnet reflections, giving it an elegant appearance. The nose reveals refined notes of forest fruits, complemented by subtle herbal accents. The palate offers a wonderful balance between berry fruitiness, a slight spiciness and a pleasant tannic structure. The finish reveals a delicate hint of almond, providing a refined and long-lasting taste experience. The alcohol content is 13.5% vol, with a total acidity of 5.57 g/l and a dry extract of 27.70 g/l.
The grapes for this wine grow on steep, well-drained slopes facing south to south-east, at an altitude of 350 to 400 metres above sea level. The vineyards are located in the communes of Donnas, Perloz, Pont-Saint-Martin and Bard, and the soils are rich in pebbles, contributing to the minerality of the wine. The grapes are grown according to the pergola system, with a planting density of 2,500 vines per hectare and a yield of 70 quintals per hectare. Harvesting takes place between mid and late October.
After harvest, the wine undergoes its vinification in stainless steel tanks, after which it matures for 12 months in large 25-hectolitre oak barrels. This ageing in wood further refines the taste and nicely integrates the tannins.

This wine is an excellent accompaniment to red meat, stewed meats, the local Fontina cheese and aged cheeses. With its rich history and authentic taste, this wine is a perfect choice for lovers of tradition and craftsmanship who want to discover the unique characteristics of the Valle d'Aosta.
