Product description
Eocene Bardolino DOC Cru Montebaldo is a distinctive and idiosyncratic wine that takes its name from the Eocene geological era, during which Lake Garda and the surrounding hills were created, some 35 million years ago. This symbolic reference to a "new dawn" reflects not only the ancient origins of the terroir, but also the renewed vision of the Bardolino district: a fresh start, a reassessment of quality, nature and authenticity. Moreover, the name refers to a song by The Ocean Collective, part of whose lyrics can be found on the label - a subtle nod to the interplay between past, future and personal inspiration.
The wine is made from 85% Corvina, supplemented by Rondinella and Sangiovese, harvested by hand in the hills of Cavaion Veronese. After destemming, the juice is spontaneously fermented with native yeasts derived from Corvina, after which the must remains in contact with the skins for seven days in stainless steel, at a controlled temperature. Only in the initial phase is light pumping and immersion, to promote gentle extraction. After both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine matures further for 14 months in steel (vintage 2020) or in Clayver ceramic amphora (vintage 2022), adding purity and elegance.
In the glass, Eocene presents itself with a bright garnet-red colour and an intense, vinous aroma. The bouquet reveals playful aromas of strawberry, English wine gums and warm spices such as cloves. This Bardolino is as fresh as it is layered, with a distinct identity that incorporates both tradition and innovation - a true ode to its origins as well as to the future of the area.
