The 'Gualdrada' Toscana IGT Bianco from Tenuta Scrafana is a white wine made from 100% Trebbiano Toscano and is best enjoyed with prawns, tagliatelle and risotto.
The 'Gualdrada' Toscana IGT Bianco is made from Trebbiano Toscano grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed, after which they undergo static clarification for about 24 hours. Slow fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 16°C. After the fermentation process, the wine matures for 24 months in amphorae and acacia barrels.
The wine has a brilliant straw yellow colour with intense greenish reflections. The intense bouquet is characterised by captivating aromatic notes of pineapple, pleasant hints of bitter almond, broom flowers and medicinal herbs. The palate is soft, pleasantly savoury and fresh, with a balanced body and reasonable persistence ending with nuanced bitter and citrusy notes.
This macerated wine is a limited edition and bears the name of the noblewoman Gualdrada Berti, famous for refusing an emperor's kiss to preserve his virtue, also mentioned by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy. Wife of Guido Guerra of the Dinasty of Counts Guidi: to them we owe the church of San Lorenzo and the relic of Holy Milk, which is still kept in the Collegiate today.
The wine's alcohol content is 12.5% vol. Gualdrada Toscana IGT Wit 2018 goes well with dishes such as shrimp tempura, tagliatelle with artichokes and saffron risotto. The recommended serving temperature is 10-12 °C.
