'Herrgottsacker Deidesheim' Riesling Trocken Erste Lage

This Erste Lage Riesling from the Herrgottsacker vineyard in Deidesheim is among the best the Middenhaardt section of the Palatinate has to offer. Only the best, higher-altitude part of this vineyard, above the Weinstraße, may carry the prestigious classification ERSTE LAGE. Here, light, well-drained Buntsandstein dominates, a soil type that warms up quickly and produces ripe grapes with aromatic intensity.

On 25 September 2023, the golden yellow Riesling grapes were hand-picked at a must weight of 91° Oechsle, indicating optimum ripeness. After a brief four-hour skin soaking, the juice was gently pressed and directed into the fermentation vessel via gravity. Fermentation took place with wild yeasts in a traditional Stückfass of wood, followed by a long stay on the full fine lees until just before bottling. This approach adds structure, complexity and depth.

On the nose and palate, this Riesling is a powerful presence with stone-fruit aromas such as peach and apricot, complemented by a slight spiciness from the wood and a briny, shimmering minerality. The finish is fresh, expressive and long-lasting - a wine with structure and finesse in perfect balance.

Filled in an elegant Schlegelflasche with natural cork, as is worthy of an Erste Lage. With 12% alcohol and a rich expression of terroir, this wine is an excellent companion to grilled fish, lobster, Asian dishes with ginger and lime, or just pure, to enjoy every sip.
