The 'il Donato' Nebbiolo D'Alba DOC is a red wine made from 100% Nebbiolo that is best drunk with hearty meat dishes and mature cheeses. Il Donato, named after the middle name of Pressenda Diego, the dedicated producer and owner of La Torricella, is a striking expression of the winery's dedication and tradition.
The grapes for this wine come from the lower part of the vineyard, where the soil is light and calcareous, contributing to the wine's unique character. The vineyard is west facing, which ensures optimal sun exposure for the grapes.
The vinification includes a maceration period of about 10 days on the skins, which ensures deep colour and flavour. The wine is then aged for about 18 months in French oak barriques, which adds complexity and structure.
'Il Donato' Nebbiolo DOC has a fascinating brick-red colour. The aroma is rich with powerful notes of dried fruit, liquorice, red cherries and subtle hints of tobacco and pepper. On the palate, the wine is robust and powerful, with firm tannins and lively acidity.
