The Torelli 'Il Vecchio' Barbera D'Asti Superiore is a powerful and elegant wine made from perfectly ripe Barbera grapes. This wine reflects the full expression of the grape variety and brings to life the rich tradition of craftsmanship. The name “Il Vecchio” symbolizes the experience of previous generations, combined with the refined quality found in each bottle.
After aging for more than 24 months in small oak barrels and a total rest period of at least 30 months after harvest, this wine develops a full, structured and harmonious flavor. The natural freshness of the Barbera grape is perfectly balanced with its powerful structure and a refined alcohol percentage that can reach or even exceed 15% in warm vintages.
Thanks to its complexity and aging potential, this wine is already delicious to drink now, but continues to develop up to ten years after bottling. 'Il Vecchio' comes into its own with rich meat dishes such as grilled sirloin steak or braised shoulder of lamb, as well as aged cheeses and truffle dishes. A wine for lovers of characterful, refined red wines.
In 1987, it was Gianfranco Torelli who, along with his parents Mario and Marisa, made the decision to fully transition to organic farming at the Torelli estate. They were well ahead of their time and were among the first in Italy to receive full organic certification in 1992.
