Product description
The Les Terres de MasLauris Rouge is an organic red wine made from Grenache noir (40%), Mourvèdre (30%), and Carignan (30%). The wine is best drunk with a good piece of red meat, but also goes well with a meat aperitif.
Les Terres de MasLauris Rouge, an AOP Luberon organic red wine, embodies the unique terroir of MasLauris with Grenache noir (40%), Mourvèdre (30%), and Carignan (30%).
The vineyards, located at 800 metres altitude at the foot of the Luberon, experience a favourable microclimate with cool nights and sun-drenched days, with the mistral playing a crucial role in the excellent health of the grapes. These factors contribute to the wine's finesse and freshness.
The organically certified vines are harvested by hand with great care, very early in the morning using a headlamp to harvest fresh grapes and preserve their integrity.
The 2021 vintage began with an exceptionally warm February, resulting in early budding in spring. Unfortunately, a historic night of frost followed on 8 April, which damaged new buds. Some plots took until early June to recover. Despite the challenges, this resulted in beautiful, albeit limited, bunches of grapes. The summer was hot but not scorching, with sufficient water until harvest, allowing the vines to reach full expression without suffering. Due to delayed growth caused by spring frosts, later harvests took place during cool nights, bringing in fresh grapes in good condition. Due to the later ripening, alcohol content was generally lower than in recent years.
Vineification included careful gravity harvesting, alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in crude concrete vats, followed by blending after four weeks of maceration and light sulphurisation at bottling. The ageing process included time in concrete vats and barriques, resulting in an alcohol content of 14% vol.
On tasting, the wine reveals a ruby red colour. The powerful aroma shows candied red fruit with a hint of spiciness. On the palate, notes of ripe cherries first emerge, supported by supple and elegant tannins. The subtle use of wood adds complexity and length. Ideal with a charcuterie platter or red meat. The wine can be drunk now, but also has potential for 10 years of ageing.
Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery. All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.
