Loulou Merlou Rouge, a French wine that embodies the art of organic winemaking. Made from 100% Merlot grapes, this wine derives its unique character from old vines making the transition to organic cultivation, planted in sandy-loamy and chalky cobbled soils.
With a modest yield of 35Hl/hectare in the 2022 harvest, Loulou Merlou Red embraces a natural winemaking philosophy. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in the cellar under the guidance of natural yeasts, without any use of additives. The wine is vinified and aged without SO2, with whole berry soaking and semi-carbonic acid maceration for 10 days, ensuring minimal extraction. The focus is mainly on stainless steel barrels, complemented by a subtle 10% contribution from oak barrels.
Bottling follows a hands-off approach, with the wine unfolding naturally. Unclarified and unfiltered, only a homeopathic dose of SO2 is added during this final phase. The result is a labour of love from two young, passionate winemakers committed to letting the terroir reveal its full potential.
With an alcohol content of 14% vol, Loulou Merlou Rouge graces the glass with a purple hue. Its nose is fresh and subtly spicy, paving the way for a flavour profile that highlights the deliciousness of the fruit. Tannins, present but discreet, contribute to an overall impression of freshness and elegance typical of Merlot.
