The 'Marselan' Rouge Terre de Camargue IGP from Mas de Rey is a powerful, rich red wine made from 100% Marselan, a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. This wine is best with duck shepherd's pie or a pumpkin and chestnut gratin.
The Marselan is a wine with an alcohol content of 12.5% vol, made from 100% Marselan grapes, a cross between Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes come partly from the oldest Marselan vines in the world. Yields are controlled to obtain a rich and powerful wine. The grapes are harvested by hand when fully ripe and vinification takes place in concrete vats. Remounting and unloading is done several times a day and maceration lasts for four weeks. The wine then matures in concrete and stainless steel vats.
The Marselan has a deep purple colour and the aromas reflect the grape variety, with notes of black fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants, spices and mineral accents. The palate offers nice concentration, supported by enveloped tannins and a touch of freshness. The finish is subtly smooth and reveals a hint of sweetness.
This wine pairs perfectly with dishes rich in flavour and substance. It will pair excellently with a duck shepherd's pie or a pumpkin and chestnut gratin. For adventurous palates, Marselan can also enhance a gourmet Black Forest. The ideal serving temperature is 17°C and the wine can be drunk now or kept for another five years.
