This special wine from the 2019 vintage is a carefully crafted blend of 50% Sangiovese, 40% Black Malvasia, and 10% Canaiolo. The wine comes from the San Miniato region in Tuscany, an area known for its rich terroir and excellent wine production. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 100-150 meters above sea level, and the grapes grow on a soil made mostly of sandstone with considerable marine fossil formations and well-integrated clay. This terroir contributes to a complex, characterful wine.
The grapes are harvested during the first two weeks of September, when they reach optimal ripeness. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled cement vats, with the Sangiovese undergoing a four-week maceration, and the Black Malvasia going through 20 days of maceration. After fermentation, the Black Malvasia ages for 12 months in cement vats, while the Sangiovese matures for 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is then further aged for 6 months in the bottle to enhance its finesse.
The color of this wine is deep ruby red with purple edges and blue hues. On the nose, it reveals rich aromas of red berry fruits, toasted wood, and subtle vanilla notes. The palate offers a lovely velvety texture, supported by expressive tannins, and exhibits the smoothness typical of the Black Malvasia grape. This wine pairs beautifully with grilled meats, wild game, medium-aged cheeses, eggplant Parmesan, vegetarian lasagna, or lentil soup. Store the bottle on its side in a cool place (below 20°C) and uncork at least an hour before serving for the best tasting experience.
