Product description
Vines: Produced only with Nebbiolo grapes, carefully selected and dry on the mats for about 3 months to ensure an alcoholic gradation of more than 14.5%. Characteristics: Messere, or Mesèr, is an important person of the past, owner of the country's best vineyards. With its name, it recalls the traditional excellence of wines of Valtellina from the past. The DOCG "Sforzato di Valtellina" or "Sfursat di Valtellina" must be aged and refined for at least 20 months, 12 of them in wooden barrels. Yield: ~60 q/ha with the best grapes being selected for drying. Yield in wine: 50%. Vineyards: Hills on the raetic side of the Alps, with southern exposure to the sun. In the areas of Valtellina Superiore Grumello and Valgella in the municipalities of Sondrio, Montagna in Valtellina and Teglio. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 350 and 450 metres above sea level. Soil type: Sandy soil, permeable, moderately deep. Vinification: Dried grapes, vinified until the end of December, fermentation "a cappello sommerso" for 15-20 days at a controlled temperature. Maturation: Aged for a minimum of 15 months in small oak barrels and then in large oak barrels. Then a long ageing, of at least 8 months, takes place directly in bottle. Ageing potential: If stored in an appropriate place, it can age for more than 10 years.
