The 'Musenhang Forst' Riesling Trocken Erste Lage is an expressive and characterful wine from a unique vineyard on the edge of the Palatinate Forest in Germany's Palatinate region. Thanks to its location at 250 metres altitude and close proximity to the forest, cool air flows over the vineyards at night, creating large temperature differences between day and night. This slows down the ripening of the grapes and promotes intense aroma building and elegant acidity. The soil, rich in loamy sand and limestone marl of fossil origin, enhances the freshness and minerality of this exceptional Riesling.
The grapes were harvested by hand on 26 September 2023, at a must weight of 90° Oechsle. A brief skin soaking was followed by gentle pressing and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine was left to mature on fine yeast for a long time, which contributed to its creamy texture and depth. On the nose, this wine offers cool, chalky notes with hints of salzzitrone, citrus zest and dried herbs. On the palate, it is tight and lively, with a spicy structure and a fresh, briny finish that lingers for a long time.
This Musenhang Riesling has an alcohol content of 12.5% and is bottled in an elegant Schlegelflasche with natural cork. It is a perfect companion to dishes with delicate acidity and briny elements, such as ceviche, seafood or white fish with citrus and fennel. Also pure, as a meditation wine, it is a true delight for lovers of dry, mineral Rieslings with tension and finesse. A wine that conveys the unique character of its origin crystal clear.
