The 'Pechstein Forst' Riesling Trocken Grosse Lage is a masterful expression from one of the Palatinate's most prestigious vineyards. The name 'Pechstein' refers to the high basalt content of the soil, which gives this vineyard its distinctive mineral character. Located in a terroir with unique soil textures and microclimatic conditions, this Grosse Lage produces wines of extraordinary finesse, length and elegance. The 45-year-old vines produce grapes that possess an outstanding balance between power, precision and aromatic depth.
The harvest took place in several rounds, with only the ripest Riesling grapes with a must weight of 92° Oechsle selected manually. After a short rest period on the skins, the grapes were pressed extremely gently and transferred to the cellar without the use of pumps. Fermentation took place in a controlled manner with wild, vineyard-derived yeasts in stainless steel tanks. A small proportion (5%) was fermented on the skins, adding extra complexity and structure. The wine matured for a long time on fine groins, which further enhances its body and depth.
In the glass, this Riesling shows with a refined bouquet of citrus, quince and a slightly reductive touch, coming together in an expression of flinty minerality. The palate is slim but layered, with a firm structure and a long, precise finish characteristic of the Pechstein. Bottled in an elegant Schlegelflasche with natural cork and an alcohol content of 12.5%, this wine is a model of terroir-driven craftsmanship. Perfect to pair with refined fish dishes, seafood or light Asian cuisine. A wine with impressive ageing potential.
