The 'Pulcella' Toscana IGT Rosato from Tenuta Scrafana is a rosé wine made from 100% Sangiovese and is best enjoyed with fish and shellfish, eggs, light pastas, grilled vegetables and as an aperitif.
The Pulcella Toscana IGT Rosato is produced using only Sangiovese grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed, with a short maceration on the skins. Slow fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 16 °C (60 °F). The wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks for 12 months.
The wine has a colour of peach blossom roses. The bright, soft and delicate bouquet reveals aromas of fresh red fruits, raspberries and wild strawberries, followed by subtle notes of spring flowers. The taste is fresh and smooth, with a well-balanced body, striking freshness and medium persistence characterised by very pleasant fruity notes.
Pulcella Toscana IGT Rosé 2019 embodies a combination of finesse and intensity, characteristics similar to the heroine who inspired its name, the beautiful Sandrina Mari, "Pulcella del Valdarno" ("Virgin of Valdarno"), who is depicted on the label. A noble figure who was both a warrior and a patriot, young Alessandra, known as Sandrina, had the courage to challenge Napoleon by leading a volunteer army from Arezzo to defend the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The wine's alcohol content is 12.5% vol. The Pulcella Toscana IGT Rosato is excellent with mixed salads with tuna and eggs, aubergine meatballs, red mullet alla livornese, spaghetti with tuna and pepper rolls. It is also excellent as an aperitif. The recommended serving temperature is 10-12 °C.
