The 'Re di Biss' Barbera del Monferrato DOC is a red wine made from 100% Barbera that is best suited to main dishes with meat, game and mushrooms.
The grapes for the wine are not picked until late October to encourage ripening. The grapes are then briefly dried after which the vinification process starts in steel tanks. Fermentation takes place in wood, giving it very persistent aromas and a full body. On the nose, the wine has slightly ethereal hints reminiscent of iodine, glaze and wax while very spicy aromas are also clearly discernible. The wine is dry, full-bodied and pleasant on the palate. The wine is named after a mythological creature the 'king of snakes' that is said to have the power to kill or petrify at a single glance directly into the eyes. The wine won't do that to you, but it is certainly a distinct wine that will leave an impression.
