Roque Palatin is a wine full of character from a clay-limestone terroir in Montagne Saint-Émilion, where the vineyards benefit from a unique soil structure. This cuvée is distinguished from the other wines in the range by its remarkably high proportion of Cabernet, which adds structure, freshness and complexity.
The blend consists of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinification takes place in a large number of small, temperature-controlled concrete cuves, working on a plot-by-plot basis to reflect the character of each terroir as accurately as possible. Maturation takes place in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, giving the wine extra strength and structure without overpowering the fruit. The presence of Cabernet, grown on chalky soil, also adds nice tension, freshness and even a subtle minerality.
In the glass, Roque Palatin offers a powerful yet balanced experience, with the richness and intensity of the fruit supported by lively acidity and a nice roundness in the mid-palate. This makes the wine an ideal accompaniment to dishes such as duck breast fillet, but it also comes into its own with a wide range of cheeses. A wine with depth and elegance, impressively reflecting the unique characteristics of its origin.
