The Rouget, a French wine, which is testimony to the craftsmanship in organic winemaking. A blend of 75% Grenache Noir and 25% Merlot, this wine derives its unique character from old vines in transition to organic cultivation, grown in sandy-loamy soil enriched with chalky cobbles.
With a modest yield of 35Hl/hectare in the 2022 harvest, Rouget embraces a natural winemaking philosophy. The cellar witnesses spontaneous fermentation, led by indigenous yeasts with no external additives. Vinification and ageing take place without the addition of SO2, with a 6-day pre-fermentation maceration followed by liquid phase fermentation. The emphasis is mainly on stainless steel vats, with a subtle 10% contribution from oak barrels.
Bottling follows a laissez-faire approach, with nature guiding the process. Unclarified and unfiltered, only a homeopathic dose of SO2 is added during this final stage. The wine is the result of the work of two young, passionate winemakers who give the terroir room to express its full potential.
With an alcohol content of 14% vol, Rouget reveals a garnet-red colour that already suggests its fineness. The nose enchants with pronounced notes of small red forest fruits. This fruit-focused wine has gourmet nuances and very light tannins.
