The 'Ungeheuer Forst' Riesling Trocken Erste Lage is an expressive and powerful wine from one of Forst's most iconic vineyards in the Palatinate. The name 'Ungeheuer' does not refer to anything terrifying, but to the imposing quality of the terroir. Located in the sheltered slopes of Forst, this Erste Lage offers a complex soil structure of limestone marl, buntsandstein and basalt geöll. This combination ensures exceptional grape ripeness, stable acids and a striking depth in the final product.
The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand with great care in several rounds. After a brief skin soaking, the golden yellow Riesling grapes were gently pressed and led to the fermentation tanks via gravity. Spontaneous fermentation took place in traditional wooden Doppelstückfässer, followed by maturation on full yeast in large wooden barrels. This increases the structure and gives the wine extra mouthfeel and length, while maintaining lively acidity. In the glass, the wine shows slightly exotic with aromas of pineapple, peach and apricot, complemented by smoky minerality, a hint of tobacco and spiciness.
With an alcohol content of 12.5% and bottled in an elegant Schlegelflasche with natural cork, this Riesling is perfectly balanced. The palate is juicy, mineral and refined, with harmonious acidity and a long, impressive finish. This wine makes an excellent companion to rich fish dishes, poultry with creamy sauces or refined Asian dishes. A powerful yet elegant expression of the Ungeheuer terroir, it comes into its own both now and with aging in the cellar.
