The ‘Vegnot’ Dolcetto d’Asti DOC 2023 is a characterful red wine made from 100% Dolcetto grapes. Its name comes from a Piedmontese nickname referring to a small plot of land near home. The wine is known for its complex structure and expressive aromas of ripe fruit and red flowers.
Despite its name, Dolcetto, meaning ‘little sweet’, this is a dry red wine with moderate acidity and a robust character. The name refers to the grape variety rather than the wine’s sweetness. The ‘Vegnot’ is best enjoyed relatively young, allowing its fresh, fruity character to shine.
This Dolcetto d’Asti pairs beautifully with cured meats, aged cheeses, and hearty dishes such as pasta with meat sauce or red meat mains. It is also an excellent match for the traditional Piedmontese dish bagna cauda, a warm sauce made with anchovies and garlic. For the best tasting experience, serve the wine at 12–14°C.
