The 2022 Verrenberg Cabernet Franc is an impressive, deep garnet red wine with distinct character. The aroma profile includes subtle herbal and vegetal notes that beautifully embody the intensity of the Cabernet Franc varietal. On the palate, you taste a full, spicy aroma supported by a juicy, penetrating structure, while the finish is long with polished tannins and a refined, mineral saltiness. The wine comes from carefully selected parcels in the Verrenberger Verrenberg and has aged in small wooden barrels, a third of which are new wood, contributing to its complex structure and subtle wood influences. With an alcohol content of 14.0%, this wine can easily be kept until 2042 and is best enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 18°C.
The 2022 vintage brought some climatic challenges, including a dry season. Nevertheless, the rainfall in September provided a good balance and the grapes retained their rich aromas without becoming overripe. This balance between concentration and freshness contributes to the elegance and refinement of this wine.
The 2022 Verrenberg Cabernet Franc was awarded 90 points and a gold medal in the 2024 Vinum Red Wine Awards.
