The Verrenberg Merlot Trocken 2022 is a tight, juicy red wine made from 100% Merlot and is best enjoyed, for example, with a steak with a red wine sauce.
The 2022 Verrenberg Merlot shines in a deep cherry red color with violet highlights. This wine offers a refreshing aroma of sour cherry, with subtle hints of wild raspberries and cassis contributing to its complex aromatic profile. On the palate, you taste impressive concentration and tight structure, supported by nicely integrated and polished tannins. The finish is fruity and powerful, with a juicy and lively impression and a subtle saline trace that adds finesse.
The grapes come from selected parcels in the Verrenberger Verrenberg and have aged in second occupied barriques, which gives the wine a soft wood structure without overpowering the fruitiness. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this Merlot can be stored until 2037. The ideal drinking temperature is 18°C.
The 2022 vintage was characterized by drought, but thanks to rain in September, the grapes maintained their balance, resulting in a rich and concentrated wine.
In 2024, this Merlot received 90 points and a gold medal in the Meininger's Red Wine Prize, confirming its quality. The wine pairs excellently with sautéed steak with red wine sauce and potatoes, or raclette with cheddar and ham, with the full flavors of the dishes enhancing the Merlot's lively, fruity character.
