In 1999, the family of Eleonora saw "Villa La Smeralda" in Briona for sale. The villa needed quite a bit of maintenance, but the unique location and beautiful surroundings convinced them to buy the dilapidated property. Eleonora's father couldn't take his eyes off the sprawling vineyards during the renovation of La Smeralda.
