    Barolo is one of, if not the, most famous red wine types from Italy. This wine is recognized by many as the 'King of Wines' and the 'Wine of Kings.' It is made from 100% Nebbiolo and comes with a significant price tag due to its very strict origin designation (DOCG).

    Buying a Barolo

    Part of that strict origin designation is that the wine must be aged for at least 18 months in French oak barrels, followed by at least 20 months in the bottle before it can be sold. The wine is also known for its exceptional aging potential, resulting in a softer and more developed wine when opened. It is a must-have for any wine lover to have in their cellar for a special occasion, although not every Barolo is of the same quality. The wine's reputation can sometimes hinder winemakers because market forces have driven the price incredibly high, and people can be disappointed.

    It’s also essential to pay attention to when a Barolo was produced, as the vintage can significantly affect the quality.

    Characteristics of a Barolo

    A Barolo is characterized by high acidity and firm tannins that soften as the wine ages. Aromas of plums, red berries, and cherries are often recognizable, with woody notes such as leather, licorice, and vanilla in the background.     What about the shipping costs?

    Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery.
    All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.

    To guarantee safe delivery, it is therefore also a requirement that orders are always made in multiples of 6 bottles.

    The following shipping costs apply:

    • 6 bottles at the same winery: €6,-
    • 12+ bottles at the same winery: No shipping costs

    You can order from several wineries at the same time. The above shipping costs apply to each individual winery.
