    Origin and Production

    Pinot Grigio originated in France, where it is known as Pinot Gris. Today, this grape variety also thrives in Germany under the name Grauburgunder and in Italy. Pinot Grigio is primarily grown in Northern Italy, particularly in the regions of Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige. The cool climate in these regions provides a fresh acidity and vibrant aromas, while the mineral-rich soil adds refinement to the wine. A similar climate can also be found in France and Germany. Pinot Gris is mainly produced in the French region of Alsace, and just across the border in the German regions of Baden, Pfalz, and Rheinhessen, this wine is made under the name Grauburgunder.

    Flavors and Characteristics

    Italian Pinot Grigio is a dry white wine generally known for its fresh and fruity aromas. Common aromas include citrus, green apple, and pear. The wine has a medium acidity due to the grape being grown in a cooler climate and often harvested relatively early. The mineral-rich soil also makes its presence known in the wine.

    The German Grauburgunder and French Pinot Gris are often known for having a higher acidity than the Italian variety. At the same time, they tend to be fruitier, with hints of peach and melon emerging more quickly. French Pinot Gris can even sometimes be found as a sweet variant with a higher sugar content due to late harvesting and oak aging.

    Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery.
    All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.

    To guarantee safe delivery, it is therefore also a requirement that orders are always made in multiples of 6 bottles.

    The following shipping costs apply:

    • 6 bottles at the same winery: €6,-
    • 12+ bottles at the same winery: No shipping costs

    You can order from several wineries at the same time. The above shipping costs apply to each individual winery.
